Longhorn Village, located at 12501 Longhorn Parkway, Austin, in Steiner Ranch, held a groundbreaking ceremony on Jan. 10 for a new 48-unit apartment expansion.
The expansion is slated to be completed in late 2024 and will be added to the retirement community’s existing 214 independent living apartments, villas and 96 healthcare units.
Longhorn Village stakeholders contracted White Construction in early 2021 to build the renovation and expansion.
“[These] are very upscale, apartment-style living units,” Project Executive for White Construction Zane Cannaday said.
Residents will be able to customize a number of things about their living space; for example, residents will be able to choose between tile, wood or carpet for flooring, he said.

The 136,000 square-foot expansion will be four stories high, have an underground parking facility connected to the existing parking facility, and a clubhouse on the first floor of the building; the clubhouse will also have a library, gathering area and other amenities for all residents of Longhorn Village to enjoy, Cannaday said.
Construction on the new expansion is currently set to start the first week of March.
Longhorn Village was established in 2008 and provides options for independent living, assisted living, memory care, hospice care and skilled nursing.
