East Austin was formerly known for being somewhat rundown but is now probably the most culturally diverse and interesting part of the city of Austin. As an older part of the city, East Austin contains historic residences, exciting nightlife, and working-class communities. The new development includes commercial buildings and condominiums. The westernmost portion of East Austin is close to downtown, and many young professionals live in this part of the city.
Upscale restaurants and cocktail bars are spread throughout East Austin, and local residents enjoy meeting up and seeing live music together on any night of the week. Food trucks and local eateries cater to any palate. Vintage shops, boutiques, and bookstores are some of the most popular businesses in East Austin. Jewelry stores and furniture stores are also easy to find in East Austin.

East Austin contains so many unique restaurants it is impossible to mention them all in this brief synopsis. Buenos Aires Cafe contains the Milonga Room and fabulous Argentinian food. Lovers of French cuisine must favor Justine’s, a cafe that serves escargot and steak frites. Residents enjoy traditional Italian dishes at Patrizi’s.
